Bracket Clock: Quality 1952 English Bracket Timepiece by Rotherham of Coventry

An English vintage bracket timepiece of fine quality, by world-famous clock and watchmaker Rotherham & Sons of Coventry. (The clocks design is one of their awarding winning “Ashow” models). • Glass-fronted and hand-crafted honey Walnut case with good graining and aged patination, bell top pagoda and a shaped brass carrying handle. • “Rotherham” signed silvered break-arch chapter ring dial, mounted on a brass plate and surrounded by four brass maiden head spandrels. • Black Roman numerals and additional fleur-de-lis and minute indicators. • Matted brass centre with an original pair of blued steel Louis XIV style hands secured by a threaded collet. • Hinged wooden rear door allows access to the Perspex dust cover and Rotherhams circular 8-day Rotherham signed lever movement with serial number “10669”, helping to date the timepiece. • Movement driven by an 11-jewel screwed balance platform escapement with Chronovar hair spring (helping to ensure the escapement is impervious to temperature change and resistant to corrosion). • The platform being signed “Made in England” and “R&S.” • Military style ‘hands-set’ button. • Detachable folding rear winding key, mounted on the lacquered concentrically snailed backplate. • Brass presentation plaque for 25 years employment. Indeed, such was the accepted holistic quality and workmanship of Rotherham’s platform escapements they were often used by other high-end English clockmakers for use in their own branded clock movements.
