Charles II Oak Panel Chest

Charles II joined oak panel chest , Rustic English oak chest, second half of the 17th century, the cover with 19th century panels. With moulded and carved terminals, the cover with later floral carved panels together with commemorative initials, the frieze with interlaced scroll carving above triple panels with carved lozenge shaped medallions, the interior with a reconstructed till with later elements, on stile supports. This panelled chest is a nice old survivor which has undergone some workshop attention, probably in the twentieth century, to ‘enhance’ the appearance of the cover or perhaps to provide the owner at that time with some components removed from another item that was distressed with initials appertaining to the family. The item retains its original iron loop hinges. The interior till has been reconstructed but lacks the pivoted cover. Dimensions: 130cm x 53cm x 62cm high.
