Description
Matching pair of Duelling percussion twin trigger pistols, comes in boxed case with accessories, note the trigger guards spurs, said to have steadied the aim, both guns are in superb condition and their actions are working as they should, the sizes stated are that of the case length being 45 cm width 22 cm depth being 7 cm, the pistols length is 36 cm height 15 cm depth of 5 cm.
Durs Egg, a gun maker originally from Switzerland, spent some of his apprenticeship years in Paris, but came over to England in the early 1770s. He set up his own shop in Princes Street in 1778. In 1786 he moved to Coventry Street, then to 132 Strand and then to 1 Pall Mall. After his death in 1831, the business was continued under his sons. In 1813, then working at Charing Cross, he patented a pellet lock (patented in France). He also claimed to have invented the copper percussion cap, but that invention was claimed by more gunsmiths. He Died Not in 1822, He was blinded in 1822, but died in 1831.
