This is a beautiful early 17th Century (c.1635) Charles I Wainscot chair of outstanding colour and patina, in very good original condition having the original drop over seat apart from a small strip to the back edge which is a vey old replacement. The superbly carved back having geometric lunette decoration with central flower, nice to see the seat rails also perfectly carved in a similar manner. The bold and well shaped arms are made from a wonderful thick section of timber. The pegs to the tenon joints are in untouched condition, the seat tips up to reveal a nice golden colour with dry surface just as we like to see. Although the feet have lost a little height over the years, the seat height is still a good 47cm.
