Early 20th Century Bassett-lowke K1 Gauge 1 Gnr 1630 Steam Mogul Locomotive Model Train
A Fine Early 20th Century Bassett-Lowke K1 Gauge 1 Gnr 1630 Steam Mogul Locomotive Model Train, produced c.1914 by Bing for Bassett-Lowke of Northampton and painted in the green Great Northern Railway livery of the period, this fine gauge 1 spirit-fired model has double-acting cylinders and all the expected fittings for a steam powered locomotive of this period. Although they sometimes manufactured some of their own pieces, Bassett-Lowke, founded in 1898 and issuing its first catalogue in 1899, was primarily a mail order company with showrooms in Holborn, London and in Manchester and many of its models could be ordered in the colours of the railway company of the purchaser’s choice. Some of these pieces were made in Germany and other tin plate toy centres and some, like the present piece, were manufactured entirely in Britain.
This piece retains its original box which, like the train itself, is in fine original condition.
