Description
An early c.18th George I period, walnut crossbanded chest of drawers. This chest of drawers with quarter veneered walnut crossbanded oblong shaped top, with moulded edge. Bank of four full width drawers with crossbanded border edges, original engraved brass locks and working key, all graduated in height. Moulded base and raised on well proportioned compressed bun feet. Pine sides and drawer linings, with drawer bases running front to back. In good working condition, and presents very well. It has been through our workshop and been sensitively serviced, thoughtfully cleaned and waxed, and now is very much ready for use. Dimensions: This chest measures approximately 89 cm (35") tall, 97 cm (38.125") wide, and 52.25 cm (20.625") deep. Condition: Please see the pictures for details of the items condition. - This chest of drawers is in an overall good condition, commensurate with its age, and is structurally sound and sturdy. Some marks and blemishes in keeping with age and use. Original locks, though one is missing its mechanism but case is present. Working key. The feet are replacements, but made from old period correct timber and likely copies of the originals. Couple of small veneer chips. A couple of very small repairs, one to the back left part of the base moulding, and two small pieces of veneer. A little old worm, typical of old walnut furniture, but does not affect the sturdiness or appearance of the chest in any way. And namely to the lower and hidden parts. All drawers run well. No loose joints. Fully serviced. Wax polished, now ready for use.
