Early Heavily Embossed Brass Box
This is a large and heavy chest is made in brass with a wooden lining. The beaten brass is embossed with decorative gothic decoration and on the front a very detailed domestic setting, with a family music tableau and showing many unusual characters in the back ground. There is an inscription along the bottom edge but too worn to read, on the top the signature A. Akens and a horned mask face.
This is a very old piece - it has an excellent patina and it is in good condition for its years and clean inside so could be used for many purposes.
The box is 26” long, 13” deep and 21” high.
