Description
Here is a wonderfully detailed small carving of the Madonna and Child, seemingly depicted standing with cloud around their feet. The carving here is so fine that the robes of the Madonna figure bear a pattern of stars. The piece certainly dated from at least the nineteenth century, and could even be from the eighteenth century. Its brass side surround frame certainly also appears to be very old and fitted by hand. In spite of the convex glass covering to the front, there is a little dust which has managed to make its way through the frame to settle onto the sculpture. There has also been a small amount of flaking to the very edge, but due to this location, not very noticeable. The piece measures about 2.25 inches (5.8 cm) in height, by about 1.8 inches (4.6 cm) in width. A truly lovely piece from another era and perfect for any collector of religious artefacts.
