Description
A most attractive and rare pair of high quality carved mahogany 18th Century English Chippendale period George III armchairs beautifully hand made with some fine and crisp details. This handsome pair of chairs stands on square back chamfered legs with fluted and carved beaded decoration raised to small carved foliate brackets. The seats are upholstered in deep buttoned maroon hide finished with a double brass nailed boarder. The backs are most ornate with a carved and pierced central panel finished with a shaped and foliate carved crest rail supported on a tapered and moulded frame from which the serpentine shaped arms protrude with generous elbow pads and ornate foliate carved fronts on moulded and shaped supports. This rare pair of high-quality 18th century English chairs are in very good original condition with firm joints and solidly upholstered seats. They are made from dense Cuban mahogany which has retained its original finish and benefits from a fine rich patina.
