Extremely Rare Pair of 18th Century Sheffield Silver Candlesticks
These are an extremely rare pair of silver candlesticks, in superb condition, dating from the 18th Century. These wonderful examples are of column design, with squared and stepped bases. There is attractive engraved decoration to the edges of each base and both candlesticks feature charming Armorials of a Stag. The columns are elegantly plain, rising to a section of fine panelling at the top. Both sconces are removable, hallmarked and finished with reeded borders.
The Sheffield Assay Office opened in 1773, with these Candlesticks being hallmarked in 1793. To find an example of early 18th Century Sheffield assayed silver, other than in flatware is extremely rare. These stunning examples are as practical as they are decorative and would make a fantastic addition to any collection.
Hallmarks:- Clear and readable. Full marks to the bases, part marks to the sconces.
