Fine Georgian Oil Painting of Lavinia After Gainsborough
A fantastic oil on canvas dating to the late eighteenth century. The work is a period piece after the painting 'Lavinia, the milkmaid' by Gainsborough, painted in 1786 and would have been painted shortly after the original. The painting centres around a beautiful country maid holding a bowl of milk standing in a typically idyllic rural landscape. It was not unusual in the Georgian period and later for copies of famous works to be made and this is a particularly good example. The painting is in excellent condition having been sympathetically and professionally cleaned. The frame is the original and is in good country house condition having a few old repairs. The whole is a wonderful example of late eighteenth century painting and in amazing untouched condition.
The piece is hugely decorative and would enhance any period interior giving the perfect English country house look.
