Superb pair of antique walnut chairs circa 1900-1920 in the Queen Anne taste by W Charles Tozer of 25 Brook Street, London W1.
Tozer furniture is still highly desirable as the company were arguably the finest cabinetmakers specialising in the early Georgian and Queen Anne walnut revival furniture from this period.
The chairs have a shaped and scrolled walnut back splat with shepherds crook shaped arms and drop-in seats.
The handsome carved walnut cabriole legs are joined at the front with a carved Carolinian stretcher and two further turned stretchers to the rear legs.
As these are now well over 100 years old the pair have a wonderful rich, golden colour and antique.
The delightful aspect to these chairs is their total originality, even retaining their original fine hand stitched needlepoint floral covers which are in very tasteful colours and are in excellent order.
Tozer’s makers label is attached to the underside of the frame.
The chairs are a beautiful example of Charles Tozer work, excellent quality, good timber and veneers used with excellent design and proportions. It is easy to see why he was recognised as one of finest cabinetmakers in his field.
