A large handsome Burr Walnut Commode of four drawers underneath a Gris St Anne Belgian marble top; original finish with superb colour and patina dating back to the Charles X era circa 1815-1830. The front is veneered in well chosen book matched burr walnut veneers. This lovely commode is raised on a plinth with shaped bracket feet and also retains its original intricate gilt bronze handles and escutcheons.
This chest is in very good condition for its considerable age and usage. There is a slight age related split to one side, please refer to this in the photographs; this is a very common problem with all antique furniture due to modern living conditions such as central heating, open fires and/or under floor heating.
This chest was photographed in natural light in our photobay; it may appear lighter in some images than others and it is normal for these commodes to appear a slightly darker colour in interior room settings, depending upon lighting and decor.
Gris St Anne Belgian Marble
Gris St Anne Belgian Marble, also known as Saint Anne Marble, is a stunning natural stone quarried in Belgium, primarily in the regions of Gougnies near Charleroi and Biesme near Namur. It is renowned for its exquisite appearance giving a dramatic sense of sophistication, elegance and visual interest to the overall design. The marble's captivating appearance can elevate the aesthetics of any room, infusing it with a sense of luxury and timelessness.
Colour and Appearance: It is characterized by its dark grey-brown background with striking white features. The primary colour is a deep, rich dark grey-brown, which imparts a sense of sophistication and elegance. The white accents, which can take the form of veins, patches, or intricate patterns, create a beautiful contrast against the dark background.
Contemporary Usage: Due to its exquisite appearance, it is highly sought-after for various interior applications, including countertops, flooring, wall cladding, and decorative accents in both residential and commercial projects.
Variation: Due to its natural variation, each slab of Saint Anne Marble is distinct and unique and each item bearing this marble is truly a one off.
Maintenance: Having been correctly sealed initially, and maintained throughout its existence if regular maintenance is carried out to protect the marble from staining this will ensure its longevity.
