Description
French oil on canvas from the mid-1800s depicting Bacchanal with Nymphs signed Marie - Abraham Rosalbin de Buncey 1833 - 1891, famous for her dark woodland landscapes combined with bright clearings and naked women and/or Venus (in the style of Narcisse Virgilio Díaz). The theme, repeatedly addressed by the artist, fits perfectly with the painter's pagan-flavoured academicism, highlighting his predilection for smooth and sensual forms, as well as subtle explorations of rhythm and "picturesque" licenses.
