French Satinwood & Rosewood Work Box - Original Tray c.1840

A fine example of this particular style of box decoration associated with French box manufacturers and often seen on Palais Royal items. This particular example is veneered with satinwood with rosewood bands. All veneer is original, complete, in excellent condition with an unspoilt patina. Original top handle. Cut steel facetted decoration in exceptional conditional, All original and complete!! The lid closes perfectly square on the original hinges. Original lock. The key is for decorative purposes only though the lock has been tested and it is in fine mechanical condition. The box interior features the original lining and fittings throughout with no tears to the material. Six hoop retainers still fully intact to the lid interior. Removable tray with storage space beneath. The tray still has the original side metal handles. All dividers are still present. Padded section, thimble section and central lid all original. Please note the beading to all upper edges of the tray frame and dividers…..all in superb condition. The exterior base lining is in Far better condition than the norm. Other than the key every aspect of this box is original and clearly has been extremely well cared for by the many generations of previous owners. Other than the highly prized fully fitted Palais Royal boxes that were made more to represent a status symbol rather than for use you will be hard pushed to find a box to top this item in terms of condition, degree of original features and price.
