Description
Genuine Tunbridge Ware box in very fine condition. The more that time moves on the more the term ‘Tunbridge Ware’ is used to describe any form of inlay that employs the use of very small pieces of inlay to form patterns or depict buildings, animals, flowers or anything else for that matter. Genuine Tunbridge Ware should in real terms only be used to describe items produced by certain manufacturers that were either based in a particular region during a certain period or alternatively work employing a particular method or parquetry work. Not the mass produced items with the likes of twin bands that feature in the hundreds on a great many websites. Genuine Tunbridge Ware is arguably The most collected form of antique woodenware. Please excuse the slight rant….I am Not an expert on Tunbridge Ware but it would be a pity if the reputation of Tunbridge Ware continued to diminish and I am quite often asked to promote ‘the cause’ of collectors. This particular item is the genuine article. Floral bands to the top and sides with a central panel to the top centre depicting larger flowers framed by multi strips of veneer with contrasting colours. Tulipwood cross grain edging to the lid. All inlays and veneer are in excellent condition. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass hinges. Original lock. Key for decorative purpose only. Original silk lining all in spotless, stain free condition. One fine example.
