Please see my stock page for one the largest selection of jewellery boxes available on this website.
Though I would not go as far as stating that the style of this box is rare it is relatively unusual. The entire top and front of the box is covered with parquetry work. Each of the 8 corners feature a design to the centre that features frequently as part of Tunbridge Style bands on many boxes made during the last quarter of the 19th century. The sides and back feature ebonised veneer. All inlays and veneer are in excellent condition. Original inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon and cartouche the latter engraved with the date 1872. The lid closes perfectly square. The interior has been refurbished to a high standard. Ruched panel set with within an outer frame to the lid interior that complements the base section nicely. The tray has side metal handles and features 16 sections, the centre having two lidded sections with ornate gilt ring pulls. Please note the nice finishing touch of the material to all of the top edges of the tray…an indication of standard of finishing. Open storage beneath the tray with padded base for those larger items of jewellery. Nice item!!
