George I Walnut & Feather Banded Fall Front Bureau Bookcase
This is a superb George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase. Displaying a charming swan neck pediment, of shaped cavetto section, with ebony inset detailing. Featuring a pair of mercury mirror doors framed by moulded gilt slip, enclosing shelves and pigeon holes above two candle slides. The bureau section with a dividing cross-grained waist moulding, demonstrating feather & cross banded fall opening to reveal a further arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes, and a central cupboard bordered by fluted column hidden drawers. The base housing four short and two long graduated feather banded, oak-lined drawers, fitted with pierced brass plate handles. Raised on later shaped bracket feet. Exuding quality throughout its construction retains excellent colour and patina. Historic repairs throughout, with some of the veneer having blistered over the years.
This bookcase comes apart into two sections for ease of transport.
