Wick Antiques was established by Charles Wallrock in the early 1980s. Having grown up in the Antiques world Charles developed an extensive wealth of knowledge. Starting out as a ‘man with a van’ he quickly gained a good reputation and embarked on a longstanding relationship with Harrods. He was later joined by his wife, Caroline Wallrock. Caroline having completed a Persian degree, went on to study at Christie’s fine art and then joined Sotheby’s specializing in Islamic and Japanese works of art, as well as taking the occasional auction. Together they make a formidable team with extensive knowledge and buy and sell some of the best items on the market.

George V Silver Presentation Salver for The King’s Royal Rifle Corps (60th Regiment of Foot)
George V silver presentation salver for The King’s Royal Rifle Corps, (60th Regiment of Foot), of circular form with a gadrooned border, raised on four claw and ball feet, the centre with a regimental badge with a Peninsula War battle honour and five facsimile signatures. Hallmarked for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co, London, 1915.
The signatures are of five young officers, who were attached to the King’s Royal Rifles in 1915/16 on a course of instruction, and on leaving, presented this salver to the Officers Mess. They were Hal Verelst, (Coldstream Guards), killed in action in September 1916 at the Battle of Lesboeufs, Arthur F. Smith, (Coldstream Guards) went on to be Chief of Staff, Army Headquarters, India, Charles Loyd, (Coldstream Guards), Chief of Staff to Lord Alanbrooke and Adc General to King George VI, H.A. Sutherland (Black Watch) went on to be Deputy Lieutenant of Peeblesshire and John Noel, (King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry) taken prisoner and held at Stalag IV-Dtorgau Prisoner of War Camp, Leipzig.
