Description
Attractive flame mahogany Georgian tea caddy of typical Georgian design. Original inlaid escutcheon. Contrasting edge trim to the top and front. The top handle is original, again typical of the period. The silver plating has worn through to some degree as to be expected. Please note the very slight discolouration where the ring of the handle has come to rest on the lid countless times over the course of circa 200 years. Original hinges and lock in fine condition. The replacement key does not operate the lock fully but it does operate it enough to prove that the mechanism is in good working order. The interior carcass lipping is all original, again typically Georgian with the contrasting lighter colouring. The lid interior is veneered with the original flame mahogany to complement the caddy exterior. The base section comprises of the standard twin removable canisters with a central section for a replacement glass bowl. The bowl is a Tiny bit to large….The lid does close fully but sometimes when opening the lid the bowl rises, a better fitting bowl could be quite easily sourced If felt necessary. Original velvet lining to the bowl section with light wood top edge to complement the interior lipping elsewhere to the caddy interior. Both canisters are in very fine condition, original hinges with flame mahogany lids with the original edge trim in excellent condition.
A nice looking caddy that displays well.
