Georgian Tunbridge Ware Tumbling Blocks Jewellery Box / Table Box c.1830

A fine example of what is one of the most sort after style of genuine Tunbridge Ware. ‘Tumbling Blocks’ (often referred to a ‘perspective cubes’) featured on many Tunbridge Ware boxes throughout the 1800’s but generally it was only the early pieces that featured the cubes across the entire, or virtually all of the top surface. All veneer, all edge trim, all outer edge borders to the top are original and complete. There are a few very minor imperfections but far less than expected on a box circa 200 years old. The lid closes square and true. Original hinges and lock. The replacement key is not a perfect fit, it does secure the box but if security is an important requirement it would be wise to have better cut….It does serve to prove that the lock is in working order. The box interior has been neatly relined with a marble effect paper….all is in excellent condition. Sadly the term Tunbridge Ware has become a general term to describe many inlaid boxes that have nothing whatsoever to do with the genuine article. An excellent opportunity to acquire A ‘classic’ item, timeless in terms of design that displays beautifully in any ultra modern or traditional setting. Must Recommend.
