Description
This is an early 18th century (c.1720) walnut bureau. The bureau stands on its original shaped bracket feet and is fitted with four long graduated drawers. The drawers are decorated with a 'feather banding' (feather banding is made using the two narrow strips of walnut, cut at 45 degrees and laid opposing each other to form a pattern resembling a bird's feather). The drawer linings are constructed in oak and are very clean. The drawers retain all their original engrave plate handles and escutcheons.
The fall (also decorated with a strip of feather banding) opens to reveal a fitted stepped interior, consisting of a central door (the cupboard behind this door slides out to expose a hidden compartment), with pull out columns to each side and an arrangement of six small drawers and pigeonholes (there is one secret coin drawer in the pigeonhole to the right of the drawer). The fall is fitted with a key.

condition
The bureau is in excellent condition throughout with only minor marks commensurate with age and usage. There are two very old arching scuff marks to one side. Overall very good original clean condition with an excellent rich warm colour.
