Description
An Imposing Largish Bronze featuring a Bull, Cow and Calf in a patinated Bronze standing on red marble. An exceptionally realistic, pleasing and sympathetic representation of the anatomy, the spirit and the connection of these three animals and that his appreciation of the anatomy of his animals, his expert chiselling and patina was was truly reminiscent of the earlier French ‘animalier sculptors. Many of his creations represent animals and suggest a devotion to the style and perfection of earlier French ‘animalier’ sculptors such as Bonheur, Barye and Mene. This work is an original, limited edition being one of two only done from a 2nd lost-wax casting by the foundry and art studio ‘Antonio Frilli’ of Florence, Italy, who purchased the model from the sculptor and from whom this piece was ultimately commissioned and purchased by the family of the present owner in 1968. The piece is signed and name of foundry (as seen in pictures).
Born in Città di Castello (Perugia) in 1889, Cappelletti studied in Florence where he trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Libero Andreotti. He successively worked with some of the most important names of the time and specialised in creating animals and subjects for fountains. His masterpieces also include a crèche embellished by a fine array of decorations. From 1939 to 1964 he worked with Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli as sculptor and mould-modeller. He died in Florence in 1964.
