Description
Goldscheider Polychromed Ceramic/Terracotta Minstrel * Austria, Vienna circa 1890-1910 * Missing arm and banjo * Either terracotta or ceramic * Original material and polychrome painted finish * Full of character with wonderfully expressionistic face * Creator Friedrich Goldscheider - a prominent artist * Embodies the Art Nouveau aesthetic * Remarkable work of art captures the spirit of its time * Serves as a testament to Friedrich Goldscheider’s talent and creativity Created by Goldscheider of Vienna this piece dates back to the late 19th century or the early 20th century, specifically between 1890 and 1910. This model is in the original material with original polychrome painted finish in shades of brown, blue and green. The figure is absolutely beautiful but tells the tale of enthusiastic wear as his arm and banjo are missing but this rather adds to his appeal. The Goldscheider company, known for its exquisite sculptures and decorative objects, produced a wide range of ceramic and terracotta pieces during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This figure is one of the notable creations from this period - the Goldscheider Minstrel Figure who was characterised playing a banjo, and it embodies the Art Nouveau aesthetic, characterized by flowing lines, natural forms, and intricate detailing reflecting the artistic styles and sensibilities of that era. This figure has also been seen in reproduction bronze forms.
