I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop in Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
Henri Alexandre Saffrey was a French engraver, born in 1800 in Montvilliers. He exhibited at Salon de Paris from 1870-1881. He is best known as an etcher, particularly of scenes around Paris. This etching is entitled "St Cloud after the Siege of Paris 3rd February 1871. La Rue Royale". The Siege of Paris was an incident in the Franco-Prussian War and lasted from 19 Sept 1870 to 28 Jan 1871, so Saffrey lost no time in capturing this image in the week after the siege was lifted! It was published by Cadart & Luce of Paris in 1872. This copy is signed in the block only lower right.
