This is a heavy antique decorative fire back. An English, cast iron relief fireplace reflector, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Substantial and classically appealing for the larger fireplace it displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order. Heavy cast iron presents a superb relief scene of classical motif. Reassuringly robust with a weight of approximately 43kg (95 lb). Striking decoration presents a neo-classical depiction of King Neptune with his trident. Neptune rides forth upon his horse-drawn chariot whilst cherubs play celestial music. Prominent surmount decorated with classical maritime fish masks. Fire back cast with an unusual rolled edge.
