Description
This is a rare Edward VII antique silver plate mounted glass preserve jar, with patent automatic opening mechanism whereby the hinged handle lifts the lid of the jar. Produced by the highly sought after makers Hukin & Heath, struck under the lid with the pattern number 22093 and on the interior with Patent No. 5518. The clear glass faceted body is mounted with a mechanical lid. The lid and swing handle allow for the jar to be opened using only one hand. This clever mechanism was created by Hukin & Heath in 1898, granted Patent No. 5518 and produced between 1898 and 1904.

condition
Condition is very good, mechanism is complete and has a good action. The glass is excellent with a cut glass starburst to the base and no chips. The silver plate is very good with no dents and very light surface scratching commensurate with age and use.
