Iconic 1971 Large Original Framed Poster 'Bullfighting Alacete, Spain'
An iconic original bullfighting large poster (September Month 1971) that has been beautifully framed for the The Plaza de Toros de Albacete, a bullring in the town of the Albacete, in the region of Castilla-La Mancha. Popularly known as "La Chata", a member of the Royal Academy, José Maria de Cossio, called it "one of the most excellent bullrings of Spain"
It features 'El Cordobes' the great Manuel Benítez Pérez (born 4 May 1936), more commonly known as El Cordobés (The Cordovan), a Spanish bullfighter, matador, and actor active in the 1960s who brought an unorthodox acrobatic and theatrical style to the bullring.
More often, however, the crowd ignores his faults and cheers him for all it is worth. “The most interesting thing about El Cordobés’ bullfights is the crowd,” says António Díaz-Cañabate, one of Spain’s most fastidious critics. “They don’t care at all about bullfighting. They want to go mad in the physical presence of a fetish.” Sex Symbol. And a fetish is what El Cordobés is. An orphan named Manuel Benitez who grew up on the streets of Cordoba and broke into bullfighting the hard way—by jumping into the Madrid ring from his seat in the stands—he is every Spaniard’s dream of the poor boy who made good. He owns four ranches, a fleet of Mercedes and a six-seat private plane, and is building a seven-story hotel in Cordoba. With his serious young face, battered body and brilliant white smile, he has also become Spain’s leading sex symbol, its contribution to the international beat generation.
As well as Diego Puerta who between 1960 and 1974, the year he retired, he fought in more than 300 bullfights. Throughout his career he suffered more than 50 gorings, four of them serious. Angel and Rafael Peralta two brother bullfighters who fought the bull on horseback. Sebastián Palomo Martínez, better known as Palomo Linares, a Spanish bullfighter, rancher, painter and film actor. Francisco Rivera Pérez better known as Paquirri a Spanish bullfighter. He died after being gored by a bull named Avispado at the Pozoblanco bullring. Jose Fuentes was a popular Spanish matador in the 1960s, known especially for his ability with the sword.
