Popularly known as "La Chata", a member of the Royal Academy, José Maria de Cossio, called it "one of the most excellent bullrings of Spain" It features 'El Cordobes' the great Manuel Benítez Pérez (born 4 May 1936), more commonly known as El Cordobés (The Cordovan), a Spanish bullfighter, matador, and actor active in the 1960s who brought an unorthodox acrobatic and theatrical style to the bullring. More often, however, the crowd ignores his faults and cheers him for all it is worth. “The most interesting thing about El Cordobés’ bullfights is the crowd,” says António Díaz-Cañabate, one of Spain’s most fastidious critics. “They don’t care at all about bullfighting.
