King Willem I of the Netherlands Burr Walnut Cabinet
This is a magnificent King Willem I (1772-1843) Royal House of the Netherlands, burr walnut two door bombe shaped press. The top surmounted by a carved and swirling cartouche with a flat surface, with concave sections beneath with a pair of stylish doors with rococo paneling and quarter matching burr walnut panels and elegant pierced brass escutcheons. The inside of the cabinet retains its original fittings of shelves and pull-out drawers, beneath the drawers is a concave section. The bombe shaped base has is a configuration of two short drawers over three further graduating drawers, each of the drawers have magnificent pierced rococo escutcheons and swan neck handles with similar back plates, all well cast and in excellent condition. The drawers follow the form of the bombe shaped base with canted corners and burr walnut and curvaceous gable, finishing on a concave section with a shaped frieze, all resting on sturdy bracket and block feet. Excellent colour and patination.
