Wick Antiques was established by Charles Wallrock in the early 1980s. Having grown up in the Antiques world Charles developed an extensive wealth of knowledge. Starting out as a ‘man with a van’ he quickly gained a good reputation and embarked on a longstanding relationship with Harrods. He was later joined by his wife, Caroline Wallrock. Caroline having completed a Persian degree, went on to study at Christie’s fine art and then joined Sotheby’s specializing in Islamic and Japanese works of art, as well as taking the occasional auction. Description
Painting on oil of the three masted 588 ton carvel built ship ‘Lady Macnaghten’ sailing under reduced sail. In the original gilt frame. The Lady Macnaghten was named after Letitia (nee Dunkin), wife of Sir Francis Macnaghten, Chief of the Macnaghten Clan and a judge of the Supreme Courts of Madras and Calcutta, who was also an Ulster patron of science and discovery. The ship was built a Howrah, near Culcutta in 1824 of Inidan teak, she was 122ft 7in long. Literature: ‘Quarantined! The 1837 Lady Macnaghten Immigrants.’ Anchor Books, Australia, 2007.
