Exceptionally fine French Empire style ormolu-mounted mahogany Cylinder-Bureau from the mid 19th century. It is of generous proportions and fine construction in solid mahogany and attractive flame mahogany veneers. Embellished throughout with crisply cast ormolu mounts. A rectangular marble top sits over three drawers to the frieze. The cylinder is decorated with winged victories and a central chariot. It opens to reveal a fitted interior and a pull-out writing surface fitted with sumptuous leather complete with gilt tooled decoration. To the sides of the desk are further pull-out slides, again fitted with leather surfaces. To the base is a series of short drawers flanking a longer central drawer. The cylinder and all of the drawers are lockable (keys supplied). All standing on elegant legs with ormolu griffins ending in ormolu lion paws.
The desk is finished to the rear so could be free-standing within a room if desired.
It splits into 3 sections for ease of installation.
