Description
We are pleased to present a great size table mirror, complete with the original beveled edge plate, from one of the Victorian mirror specialist silversmiths. The silver work itself is complete and shows only a few holes arising from overzealous polishing by previous owners. However, this does little to detract from the aesthetic or functional qualities of the piece.
As you will see the mirror does have one or two scratches and minor losses of the mirrors silvering. However, as this item is 120 years old, it is creditable that it has remained intact, let alone functional.
We have thoroughly stabilized the structure of the mirror mounts and replaced the velvet with a hand died plum (or dusky) velvet which is more in keeping with modern tones.
We believe that the finish of this frame is far preferable to ‘silver flooding’ that can be used to cover some defects, but may also result in significant loss of detail.
If you are looking for a usable and sensible sized mirror, that demonstrably has a history as well as a long future, you should definitely consider this one.
