This is a large 19th Century English Victorian antique oil painting on canvas portrait study of terrier dog and pups catching a rat (2 of 2). Unsigned, artist unknown. It comes in an elaborate gilt gesso frame. Provenance on reverse as follows: Entitled "First Lesson". "From the original picture by Sir E Landseer 1875".

condition
Condition commensurate with age - various superficial marks & scratches, craquelure, lots of damage to canvas with numerous repairs to reverse and some knocks to gesso frame but all part of its charm and character. Priced accordingly. Please DO satisfy yourself as to the condition before buying - see video. This item is obviously delicate and the gesso frame fragile. Therefore, whilst every care will be taken to pack this item extremely well, I cannot guarantee that some pieces of plaster will not become fragmented and dislodged. Please understand this before committing to buy and it will need to be understood that the buyer accepts this risk if having the item delivered by courier. No refunds will be available for this reason nor can the item be returned.
