Description
Large mid 1800’s rosewood jewellery box in very good condition. No missing or replaced veneer. Even colour and grain. Highly ornate and intricate Mother of Pearl inlays to the top and front, all original, complete and in excellent condition. The lid closes perfectly square on the original brass hinges. Original lock (key for decorative purposes only). Sprung side drawer released by removing the original brass locking rod located to the box interior. The drawer features the original lining and dividers, all complete and once again in excellent condition. The main storage area has been neatly relined throughout and provides a generous storage area be that for boxed items of jewellery or loose items or a combination thereof. The lid interior features the original velvet fronted panel (some wear but no tears) that folds forward to provide access to a ‘love letter’ envelope which is best described as being in unused condition with both side folds still fully intact and the interior of the envelope in spotless condition. All lining throughout the lid is original. Recess that accommodates the original rosewood framed mirror with the expected slight loss of silvering. The box was originally a dressing/vanity box and is now ideal for modern day use as a jewellery box of generous proportions and of a build quality and appearance certainly superior to most jewellery boxes produced nowadays.
