Description
-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-
This is a charming late 17th Century (c.1690) Stuart period solid oak bureau. Wonderful rich warm colour to the oak, having developed warmth and character over the centuries.
The fall-front opens to reveal a stepped fitted interior with an arrangement of four pigeon hole compartments over four solid oak drawers, over a concealed well with covering slide.
To the lower section are two solid oak drawers, retaining the original iron locks. The front of the bureau is decorated with attractive applied half rounded drawer dividers. Very attractive panelled sides.
The brass handles are slightly later replacements, c1750 from the George ll period. Standing on later bracket feet.
A good solid oak characterful bureau of excellent patina, with a waxed surface.
