Late Victorian Ladder back X-frame armchair c.1900

Available from W&W Antiques is a late Victorian c.1890-1914 Gothic X-framed ladder back armchair. - The armchair has a great and distinctive, intricate design and construction which provides a statement presence and rich colour and patina, constructed of mahogany. - Three ladderback cross splats sit between the chamfered uprights which are topped with terminal turned ball finials. - The arms are swept and curve down to meet the cradled seat.  At the front of the armchair where the legs meet the front seat rail is a gothic / puginesque decorative boss. - The stepped and sinuous legs are all united by a curved X-cross stretcher. - The chair is in solid antique condition with an old repair to the right arm (as you sit in it) joining the seat rail, but this does not affect its great utility and decorative function as an architectural armchair.  We love the fact that with the exceptions of the uprights to the back support all sections and pieces have a curve within them.
