Liberty and Co Rush Seat Fireside Chair

Small (three quarter size) beech wood fireside single chair with original woven rush seat. This type of rush chair in the Arts & Crafts manner was retailed by Liberty & Co (London) and is dated turn-of-the-century (c. 1900). The chair has a high back with five wavy vertical rails and double classic stretchers to the front and the sides. The seat is low (31cm high) as such a chair was originally intended for sitting low and as close to the fire as possible to keep warm. This collectable chair would add great charm when placed next to a small stove or small fireplace in any setting (with a William Morris or Liberty's type interior décor) or a cottage-style kitchen.
