An 8-day twin fusee striking movement consisting of five pillars, with original verge escapement striking the hours to a bell via a rack and snail striking system, with the alarm striking the same bell, which can be silenced. There is also a repeating function, and the back plate is beautifully engraved with floral swags and scrolling foliage.
The inverted bell top case is stunning in its style and construction and uses the finest flame mahogany veneers. The gilded mounts are of excellent quality, and five urn-shaped finials surmount the top of the case. The sides of the case are glazed with carrying handles above. The rear door is also glazed.
The 6 ¾” brass break arch dial with subsidiary strike/silent dial set within the break arch, consisting of Roman and Arabic numerals and cartouche below XII signed ‘John Taylor London’, calendar aperture above VI and finished with the original finely cut blued steel hands, centred by a silvered alarm disc engraved with the hours 1 – 12 for setting against the tail of the hour hand.
