Fine quality 19th Century French antique bureau plat by the prestigious firm Maison Millet of Paris. Very well constructed in attractive kingwood inset with panels of satine which are decorated with floral marquetry inlay. The top is inset with a patterned silk fabric and finished with brass to the surrounds. With 3 drawers to the front and standing on elegant cabriole legs. Finished to the rear so could be free standing within a room if desired. Adorned with crisply cast gilt metal mounts throughout. The mounts are stamped 'Mb' for Blaise Millet.
Maison Millet was established by Blaise Millet in 1853, and continued by his son Theodore until 1902 from premises at 11 rue Jacques-Coeur , Paris before relocating to 23 Boulevard Beaumarchais, Maison Millet was a highly regarded furniture company that was described as producing "meubles et bronzes d'art, genre ancien et moderne". The firm won several awards in the series of exhibitions in London and Paris, such as the gold medal in the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle.
