This is a superb George III, c.1769, matched gilt metal and agate chatelaine and etui with implements, including scissors, bodkin needle, spoon, folding fruit knife, and a bone writing surface with a handwritten note in pencil: “How can they say that nature has nothing made in vain / Hardwicke Sept 19th 1769 a happy afternoon S.T.”, Shipping: Free for UK, EU, and US destinations. Lefays has clarified that the Matched Gilt Metal & Agate Chatelaine and Etui with Implements c.1769 (LA504950) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1769
condition
In excellent condition. The lid of the etui shows a small gap when viewed from the inside (see image), probably where a seam was not fully joined. There are some scratches on the reverse of the chatelaine. The bone writing surface is missing a rivet cover on one side of the hinge.
