Description
Alistair Michie was educated in France and Scotland and studied architecture in Edinburgh. During World War II he was a Mosquito pilot in the R.A.F. In the 1960's after a successful period as a graphic artist he began a career in painting and sculpture.
His work has been included in numerous exhibitions in the UK and abroad. In 1964 he was the finalist in the Arts Council Open Painting Competition. He has shown at the Richard Demarco Gallery in Edinburgh in 1971 and travelled to Brazil in 1972 to lecture and participate in exhibitions. He had an exhibition of his sculpture at the Barbican in 1981 and the following year in Cardiff and Covent Garden, London. In 1982 he became an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. He shows regularly at the Rwa and in 1992 and 1993 was invited to exhibit at the Alresford Gallery. He was Hunting Observer Finalist in both 1993 and 1994 and in 1993 showed at the Bruton Street Gallery in London. In 1996 he had a solo exhibition at the Mall Gallery, London and in 2000 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Bournemouth University.
His work is included in several prominent collections such as British Aerospace, Oxford University, the Museums of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, B.P. International, Mitsui Bank and the Mazda Motor Company.
