Description
These are an outstanding pair of arts and crafts chairs. Superbly inlaid all the way up the central splat to the top .Tree of life.
Crisp purpose turned legs. A great all round design. Possibly made by William Birch and to a design by George Walton (Glasgow School). The wood appears to be walnut. The inlay pieces are a variety of wood veneers as one would expect. The central inlay appears to be stained beech with a fiddle back type grain. The upholstered seats appear to be original.
Please note J.S.Henry also made and sold chairs by George Walton .If the legs were your typical arts and crafts legs then one could argue a case .The legs are what one would associate with William Birch chairs .Food for thought .
Please note . J.S Henry made furniture .The designer G.M.Elwood also designed very similar furniture for J.S.Henry.
Either way a rare pair of chairs.
All of the above is my opinion only .
This is four figures and a p.o.a. Thank you .
