Description
Please see my stock page for one of the largest selection of jewellery boxes and writing boxes available on this website.
Highly sought after Palais Royal box. Original highly ornate top handle and applied pierced brass decoration to the corners of the lid. Original inlaid oval Mother of Pearl escutcheon. Fortunate that the original turned brass feet are still present and firmly fixed. Original hinges and lock with what is possibly the original ornate working key. It is of course style of the box and the rare mulberry veneer that is the main appeal to this item. The veneer has an extremely unusual grain and colouring and was used quite frequently by Palais Royal box makers. Other than a small filled area at the back right side corner of the lid (approximately 2cm x 2cm) all veneer is original and in very fine condition. The box interior has been relined with a marbled effect paper. This box would more than likely have contained various sewing accessories. Had the original contents been present the box would have been valued at least 5 times the stated price. As it stands it is still a highly sought after item, Palais Royal box makers enjoyed a worldwide reputation for producing extremely high quality items to the well to do members of society.
A rare opportunity for all keen antique box collectors. Scan the web to confirm scarcity factor and prices. Highly Recommended.
