Description
Original Victorian Gentleman's highly unusual brass Antique '10 Guinea Pass' for Kempton Race Course (horse racing) pocket watch chain fancy fob.
C~Dated 1889.
Similar to the fobs I have supplied to Pinewood Studios.
(Please excuse the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph).
Measures: 3.8cm height (including the top ring), 2.9cm width, 2mm depth and weighs a respectable 8.6 grams.
Extremely ornate Victorian fob which is beautifully adorned to the front with a large, slightly raised equestrian horseshoe (correct in having four nail holes to one side and 3 to the other) holding the intertwined Victorian Gothic capital letters to centre; Krc (Kempton Race Course).
Within a central banner cartouche is the date; 1889.
To each side of the fob are two mythical Thoroughbred horses.
The back is stamped in arched script to top; 10 Guinea Pass and is numbered to centre; 718.
Also carries the makers name in arched script to base; H. Lewis 172 New Bond St London.
Original robust brass top ring to attach to a Gentleman's pocket watch chain.
Excellent clean and bright condition with some overall patina, wear and surface scratches due to having been found in the River Thames (wonder if the original owner was either making merry or commiserating and dropped the fob by accident - we will never know).
Will arrive in a new velvet presentation pouch and be securely and safely packed.
