Porcelain Coffee Set: Stunning Porcelain Coffee Set by Famous Maker Portmeirion, From Their Phoenix Pattern

A stunning "Phoenix" Earthenware pattern coffee set, by Portmeirion Pottery, manufactured at their famous works in Stoke, Staffs, the set includes: coffee pot, sugar bowl, cream jug, and 6 x coffee cans and saucers. This classical eye-catching pattern was incredibly popular and much prized when it first came to market in 1968, and today is much sought after by coffee lovers and collectors alike! Under the direction of Portmeirion co-founder and ceramics designer Susan William-Ellis, this fabulous pattern was created by John Cuffley, (who reportedly had superb calligraphy skills and was also an accomplished musician), and was commissioned by Portmeirion between 1967- 1971. When designing the Phoenix pattern and their final render colours, Cuffley fashioned the Phoenix in the same crocheted style as those portrayed by the traditional Zodiac star signs, placing one of these single Phoenix bird motifs on each side of the coffee set items, resulting in an iconic visually powerful finish.
