Description
A rare Chelsea porcelain dish, circa 1752, of simple six-lobed form, decorated in Chinese famille rose style, with a border of light turquoise-blue diaper bands alternating with half-flower panels, painted with peony and poppy flowers alternating with fantastic butterflies around a central gold and enamelled flowerhead, 21.2cm diam

Condition: Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a small flare at the rim, probably a restored chip (see images). Slight wear to decoration. Various firing spots and marks.
Notes: Chinese famille rose porcelain, circa 1735-1745, had little influence on Chelsea designs, possibly because they were too prevalent in the marketplace. (Source: Curator, The British Museum - see references below)
