Rare Antique Japanese Wooden Merchants / Calligraphy Chest with Stand

This is a superb antique Japanese merchants or calligraphers chest on stand dating to the 'Edo' period. Made of solid mixed woods the chest is fitted with narrow long drawers and has decorative hand forged metal ware and handles. The top is fitted with a lift up lid and one of the drawers has a hidden mechanism which locks it closed. A rare piece, not often found with a carrying stand. Superbly aged patina. The chest is well aged. The lift up lid looks to be a later replacement. Please take a look at all of the photos to get an idea of its condition.
