Description
Thisi s a very unusual lacquered brass early auto aneroid barometer by G. Lufft No 954 c.1905. Motor aneroid barometer having 1⅞” transfer decorated enamel dial, barometric scale calibrated in inches of mercury with a range from 26” - 31” and divided down to 1/10th”. Standard meteorological terms. Blued steel pointer, rotating bezel with steel point index under convex crystal. Conventional movement driven from a single 1” capsule tensioned on a C spring, the chassis struck with Lufft dividers logogram. All contained within a spun drum form case, the circumference with fine thread and securing ring facilitating fixing to a panel up to ¼” thick (6.5mm). The verso with calibration adjustment port. The bezel and case both struck with serial no. “954.” Condition: The subject of full service, restoration, and calibration under laboratory conditions. The movement working well with easily acceptable accuracy across the standard barometric range, 28” – 31” Hg, see performance chart. The bezel worn with some original lacquered finish remaining, the dial near perfect, clean and crisp, the original glass with some minor manufacturing flaws. The rotating bezel running smoothly with sufficient setting resistance. The fixing ring thread clean, the ring running smoothly. Comments: A next to impossible to find instrument of this vintage, really interesting as it bears the early Lufft dividers logogram. Condition and function for its age make this an item of great importance to the restorers of early automobiles and collectors alike.
