Description
Very likely a special customer commission this long case clock has 2 or 3 really unusual features. Firstly is the painted dial, the four corners are decorated with Eastern architectural ruins , whilst to the top arch is a Bedouin trader with two camels set inbetween two stone pillars. In all over 60 years of trading we have not come across this subject matter on a longcase clock. The second unusual feature is the case. Typical in size for the period, mainly choice mahogany veneers with rosewood crossbanding , but not ordinary is the boxwood inlays to the door (set on burr walnut) and the further foliate inlays set on bowed panels, beneath and above the central door. Even the uppermost pediment has a striped inlaid panel above which sits a pyramid style of feature. The whole case is in very good original condition. The eight day movement has had a light service and is ticking away merrily. A rare beast indeed.
