A Pair of Decorative Signed Limited Edition of 500 Bird Prints by Raymond Watson
Raymond Cyril Watson, was born at Ipswich on 25 March 1935, son of Cyril Alphonso Watson (31 May 1905-18 March 1989), a cowman, and his wife Daisy née Poulson (12 March 1909-1980), who married at Preston, near Lavenham, Suffolk in 1931 and in 1939 were living at 21 Holly Road, Kesgrave, Ipswich. Raymond studied at the Ipswich School of Art, making his career in commercial and graphic art whilst pursuing an interest in the drawing and painting of wildlife, particularly of birds. He held his first solo exhibition, from 94 Mallard Way, Ipswich, of British bird pictures with the Haste Gallery in Ipswich in 1969 and was a regular exhibitor at the Moorland Gallery, Cork Street, London and at Mandell's Gallery, Norwich.
His work is represented in the Ulster Natural History Museum and in 1971, at the International exhibition in Hungary, won the Grand Prix for painting. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1967 until his death and exhibited at their centenary show in 1974, a watercolour 'Sparrows and Dandelion Heads' and in 1977 exhibited from 'Paridae', Burstall, Ipswich 'Nesting Oystercatcher'. He married an Ipswich girl in 1956, Peggy V. Dye (born 22 December 1934). Raymond Cyril Watson died at Ipswich in 1994.
